Earthquake in the middle of Galungan celebrations
An earthquake with a magnitude of 4.9 shook Bali and its surroundings on Wednesday, July 24 at 09.29 am (local time).
The epicenter of the earthquake was 84 km southwest of Jembarana, Bali with a depth of 71 km.
This earthquake was felt in Kuta with scale IV, Denpasar, Banyuwangi, Jember with III, in Gianyar, Tabanan, North Lombok with scale II. No tsunami warning has been issued.
The Head of the Bali Regional Disaster Management Agency, I Made Rentin, told that there had been no reports of damage.
Tourist activities are monitored smoothly. Airport operational activities remain normal.
Today Bali Hindus celebrate one of the most important holidays on the island - Galungan, a day celebrating the victory of dharma (virtue) over adharma (vice). The earthquake did not interfere the religious activities.
