Hotels in Karangasem are Suggested to Make Discounts

The impact of the Coronavirus outbreak was greatly felt by tourism actors, especially in Karangasem Regency. The level of visits and tourist occupancy to Karangasem decreased significantly.

Chairperson of the Indonesian Hotel and Restaurant Association (PHRI) Karangasem Branch Wayan Kariasa, Thursday (27/2), said, due to the decrease in tourist visits, tourism accommodation had difficulty covering operational costs. As a solution, entrepreneurs try to bring tourists by giving a room discount of 30 to 50 percent.

"The effort made is to cover the operations of hotels and restaurants in Karangasem. This room price discount is given to foreign and domestic tourists. We hope that by that way tourists will be interested again in staying at Karangasem hotels, "he said.

Kariasa emphasized that since the Coronavirus broke out, there have been hundreds of foreign tourists who have canceled visits to Karangasem for reasons of fear of contracting the virus. So far, foreign tourists visiting Karangasem have been dominated by Australia and Europe.

Regarding the policy of the central government to eliminate the PHR levy for six months, Kariasa stressed, if it is true, then it is welcomed by employers. "Because it is considered very helpful hotel and restaurant owners in reducing operational expenses," he said.
