Hotel and Restaurant Association Asks for Increasing of Hotel Prices
The Chairman of Badung Indonesian Hotel and Restaurant Association (PHRI), I Gusti Ngurah Rai Suryawijaya said that Bali must aim for quality and sustainable tourism. He recommends setting minimum selling prices for hotel rooms.
The aim is to protect employers, destinations, and hotels.
"The tourism competition is extraordinary. 5 star hotels take 4 stars, and so on. This way Bali will be famous for being the cheap tourism destination in the world, "- said Suryawijaya on a meeting at the Provincial Tourism Office.
According to Rai Suryawijaya, the prices of hotel rooms in Jogja are far more high than in Bali. But in fact, the hotels in Bali are much better.
He noticed that in Singapore, five-star hotel rooms can be sold for Rp 3-4 million per night. Whereas in Bali, a suit which has private pool facilities can be sold for the price from Rp. 1 million.
Rai Suryawijaya added that currently there are around 146 thousand hotel rooms in Bali. With visits of 6.3 million tourists, the average occupancy or occupancy rate is only 67%. So there are still about 35% more rooms that must be sold.
Rai Suryawijaya said that Bali must have the courage to conduct a study related to carrying capacity.
"Then prices can also be increased by 20%, as well as income automatically. From the target income of IDR 6 trillion, it can definitely be IDR 8 trillion, " - concluded Rai Suryawijaya.
