Karangasem thief arrested again for phone snatching
Kadek Bukit alias Dek Mer from Banjar Bung Lada, Ledahan village, Central Tianyar, Karangasem was captured in Kuta again.
The 29-year-old recidivist has been already in and out of prison five times before for theft. Dek Mer was arrested for snatching at seven different locations before.
This time Dek Mer was captured at Jalan Merpati gang X number 7 West Denpasar.
The head of Kuta Criminal Investigation Unit, Iptu I Putu Ika Prabawa, explained, the arrest of the perpetrator followed a report from German tourist Leoniw Scohner. The victim claimed to be robbed on Jalan Kunti, Seminyak, Kuta, Badung on Friday (17/1) around 22:30.
At that time, the victim was piggybacked by a friend and held her cellphone to view the google map. Suddenly the culprit came from behind riding a Honda PCX motorcycle and seized the victim's white iPhone XS.
"From the victim's report, our members immediately conducted an investigation. From witnesses' examination and information gathered at the location, we finally found out the identity of the perpetrators," explained Prabawa.
The perpetrator was secured in his residence a day after the crime. The police also secured white XS iPhone evidence and a motorbike used by the perpetrator during the crime.
"The perpetrator admitted snatching phones 7 times. The results of the mugging were resold. He used the money for daily needs. He was also five times in and out of prison for the same case," said Iptu Ika.
